Soldiers in the Iron Dome unit of the Technical Division of the Aerial Defense Formation received special recognition last week: In a ceremony hosted at IAF headquarters in the presence of Head of Material Directorate Brigadier General Ran Levy, and Commander of the Aerial Defense Formation Brigadier General Shahar Shochat, certificates of recognition were given to all representatives of the formation: soldiers of the battery’s technical units, as well as instruction and headquarter personnel.
Technicians of the Iron Dome system work day and night, conducting qualification examinations of the system on a regular basis, and fix every problem that might trigger a fault in the system’s functional capabilities. There are launching technicians, radar technicians and technicians responsible for the interception center, as well as technicians responsible for the general equipment of the battery- from generators to communication systems.
During Operation Pillar of Defense, people of the Iron Dome unit of the Technical Division displayed maximum efficiency: Thanks to their dedicated care, the system reached unprecedented interception percentages without any exceptional technical incidents despite continuously working.
The Iron Dome proves that the basic principle of the IDF’s power in keeping a technical advantage against our enemies is useful against inferior technologies. When having to decide between a cheap weapon or maximizing our odds by developing a high quality weapon- its better for us to choose the second option”, said Brigadier General Levy in his speech at the ceremony. “Iron Dome’s success will challenge our enemies and our system’s abilities. We will have to keep an eye on advancing the system and our power in order to maintain our advantage”.
