Operation ‘Thunderball’: an elite IDF force is flown in IAF C-130 Hercules transports to Entebbe Airport in Uganda, to free hostages from a hijacked Air France flight. The plane had stopped over in Athens in the course of a flight from Tel Aviv to Paris when it was commandeered and taken to Uganda. IDF Sayeret Matkal (elite comando unit) warriors subdue the terrorists in a brief exchange of fire, and the hostages are flown back to Israel. Two of the hostages are killed, and so is the commander of the unit, Col. Yoni Netanyahu.
