The excitement that enveloped Palmachim airbase could be felt from the main gate. The President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, arrived yesterday for a special presidential visit. As part of the visit, the president took a look at the latest technology in the force. He was also given a comprehensive briefing on operational activities and future challenges by the Chief of Staff, the Head of the IAF, and heads of several divisions. The president toured an exhibition of UAVs and the command room of the Missile Testing Unit of the force.

“Not all of the IDF’s power is visible to the naked eye”, said the president, “Those who disparage and who wish to harass us should take this into account”. The president then continued: “I am full of pride in the soldiers and commanders of the force and in the IDF as a whole. The IAF is the best air force in the world. It has original systems that are unique to it. The IAF is equipped with the weapons that epitomize technological progress and, most importantly, devoted and quality human capital. The IAF will never be satisfied with the status quo and is always looking forward, towards the future and all the challenges it may bring. You are a force with a heavy burden on your shoulders that produces technical and strategic results every day.”

Chief of Staff, General Benny Gantz said during the visit: “Israel is currently facing many challenges in many ranges, including the sky. We are constantly ready, 365 days a year, wherever, and for any challenge. We know how to provide intelligence, operational, and tactical responses in the face of any threat. The IAF is the main component in deterrence, offensive and defensive activities; coupled with fantastic technological capabilities…The IAF is a division of the IDF that excels. Israel has good reasons to be proud of its air force.

The Commander of the IAF thanked the president for his visit and said: “The IAF is a decisive branch of the army, that provides an early warning and is the protection of the IDF, and is based on a special combination of extraordinary people with the abilities and their devotion. Air power, flexibility are qualities and abilities that are relevant today, more than ever.”
