Around 10pm last night, an IAF aircraft hit 30 targets throughout the Gaza Strip in response to the heavy barrage of rockets fired last night on Israeli civilian communities in the South. Additionally, last night, armored forces fired on targets in southern and northern Gaza Strip immediately after the barrage of rockets.
This afternoon, an IAF aircraft hit seven targets in Southern Gaza Strip in response to rocket barrages fired on Ashdod and Ashkelon earlier today

Yesterday afternoon, civilian communities in Southern Israel were attacked by dozens of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip. Soldiers operating the “Iron Dome” system intercepted three rockets and prevented loss of life.

Minister of Defense, Moshe Yaalon, gathered IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) representatives to evaluate the situation following the massive rocket fire.
“We will not allow ‘Islamic Jihad’ or any other entity in Gaza disrupt the lives of Israeli citizens”, said the Minister of Defense last night during the situation assessment. “If there isn’t quiet in the South of Israel, we will not allow quiet in the Gaza Strip either – to make ‘Islamic Jihad’ terrorists regret their rocket fire. ‘Hamas’ is responsible for what is happening in Gaza and it should take into account that we will not tolerate rocket fire at us. If it does not know how to enforce peace, it will pay a heavy price”.

The massive barrage of rockets last night was the heaviest since Operation “Pillar of Defense” over a year ago, when terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip fired around 1,500 rockets on civilian communities in Southern Israel. The IDF has made clear that it will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers and it will continue to act decisively and strongly against anyone attempting to harm civilians.
