The IAF carries out 161 attack sorties on the Egyptian front, and shoots down seven Egyptian planes that had penetrated airspace over the Sinai with hostile intent. One of the Egyptian pilots, who parachutes into Israeli hands, is Maj. Nabil Sa’id. Sa’id’s face was well known in Israel: he had appeared in a famous photograph with President Nasser, when Nasser had visited an Egyptian squadron, announced the closure of the Tiran Straits and said – “if (Prime Minister) Eshkol and (Chief of Staff) Rabin want war – ahlan wasahlan (‘they are welcome to it’)”.
