Addressing members of the International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (ICJP), who held a two-day conference at the Knesset this week, Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein said during Monday`s plenary sitting that ”we are all aware of what has been going on lately, not only in Israel, but in Europe and the rest of the world as well. I am convinced that you will stand guard in order to fend off the slurs and the brutal attacks against us by various elements, such as the BDS movement – mainly in Europe – which receive support and funding from anti-Israel organizations.”

Edelstein further told the Jewish lawmakers, who observed the plenary sitting, that while Israel constantly works to defend itself, it also seeks agreements with its neighbors. ”Our hand is extended in true peace to anyone who is willing to lay down his sword, abandon the hatred, engage in dialogue and not view us as a hostile element – even if all this will take a while.”

”In the meantime, we hope we will be able to recruit other parliaments for effective joint measures related to sustainability, water and renewable energy,” Edelstein said.

”I support the important work you do in your countries,” the Knesset speaker told the Jewish lawmakers. ”I wish you a fruitful, useful and enjoyable visit in our country.”

Thirteen legislators from the US, Canada, Chile, France, Belgium, Brazil, Romania, Hungary and Ukraine took part in the conference.
