The Anti-Aircraft Command is established. Its first commander is Lt. Col. Boris Senior (El-Dor). The growing strength of the Egyptian Air Force and the worrying prospect of Egyptian strategic attacks against Israel augment the AA Command’s importance, and it is made directly subordinate to the IDF Deputy Chief of General Staff. The early warning array includes a network of ground observation points and radar stations, as well as balloon units and the AA guns themselves. The IAF’s central Operations Room is set aside for the Command’s use.
