Commander of foreign Air Defense forces arrived in Israel to participate in a first-of-its-kind conference regarding Air Defense.
The goal of the conference, led by the Israeli Air Defense Division, is to create professional, operational discussion between the commanders of Air Defense forces from around the world. The event was attended by commanders from Canada, USA, Greece, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Poland.

“We produced this meeting so that we could learn together and share information and ideas with our counterparts around the world”, said Brigadier General Shachar Shochat, IAF Air Defense forces Commander. “In addition, we showed them to the activity of Israel’s security industries, which work closely with IAF’s Air Defense forces and has proven their impressive capabilities of producing advanced, unique Air Defense systems leading to great achievements”.

The commanders visited the different operational units of the Israeli Air Defense forces like the “Arrow” and “Iron Dome” units, were presented with the missions of the force and its unique military doctrine and discussed optional opportunities for cooperation.

Many questions arose during the visit regarding the Israeli operation methods, one of which addressed the prevention of missile shipments to hostile countries and organization.

Brig. Gen. Yona Saida Marom, Active Defense Wing Commander, explained that the mission of attack is among the most important missions of the IAF and during Operation ‘Protective Edge’, 30% of the attack missions were aimed against production and importing of weapons.
Another emerging issue regarded dealing with smaller and closer targets, rather than large and distant. “We have improved our capabilities on that issue and work diligently on finding additional solutions”, said Brig. Gen. Saida.

One of the Most Experienced n the World
Due to its massive activity in the past and present, the Israeli Air Defense force is considered one of the most experienced in the world. In southern Israel, hundreds of missiles and a UAV were intercepted during Operation ‘Protective Edge’ just last summer and in Northern Israel, a UAV and a Syrian fighter jet were also intercepted. “This is why commanders from around the world wish to study as much as they can from us”.

During the conference, each commander was given the opportunity to present its force and the challenges he and his soldiers face. They will also visit Israeli heritage sites such as “Yad Vashem” and the Israeli security industries which labor to manufacture advanced air defense systems for the IAF.
