General Philip M. Breedlove, USEUCOM commander, visited Israel last week. The General met with senior officers and toured Hatzor Airbase. Improved infrastructure for American defense forces are being built in the IAF as part of the growing operational cooperation between the countries
The strategic cooperation between the IAF and the USEUCOM (United States European Command) continues to grow stronger. Within the framework of the enhancement of operational cooperation, General Philip M. Breedlove, USEUCOM commander, visited Israel last week as the official guest of Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, IDF’s Chief of Staff. The General toured IAF airbases and met with Moshe Ya’alon, the Israeli Defense Minister, as well as other IAF high-ranking officers.
Gen. Breedlove met Brig. Gen. Zvika Haimovitch, the commander of the IAF Air Defense Division and Colonel Yoni Saida Marom, commander of the “Active Defense” Wing, to talk about mutual challenges, operational plans and the challenges the IAF deals with.
“Our operational cooperation with the Americans is extensive and significant”, said Col. Marom. “Before we fight side by side, we must build a system of mutual trust. In the D-day, we would know how to work together in the best way”.
Improved Infrastructure to American Forces
Over the past year, the IAF has been advancing a project for building improved infrastructure for American forces with the objective of having American defense forces training in Israel on a regular basis.
This is the Sixth time that Gen. Breedlove has visited Israel under an official capacity and the second since taking office as USEUCOM commander in 2013. USEUCOM is a US command which acts in most of Europe, parts of Asia and the Middle East and the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. The command is also responsible for the US military cooperation with Israel.
