During Wednesday`s plenary sitting on Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom`s comments against Israel, Minister of Science, Technology, and Space Ofir Akunis (Likud) said: ”I am telling the Swedish minister, and also other ministers of the European Union, who are becoming more and more extreme against Israel and in favor of the Palestinians – stop preaching to us, because such measures or ugly remarks such as those made by Ms. Wallstrom will not bring peace closer, they will delay it.”

Akunis argued that the Swedish FM`s comment may have reached the ears of young people in the Palestinian Authority, and that it ”certainly provided a tailwind for terror.”

The minister told the plenum that while he was not laying any direct blame, ”perhaps, when in addition to the Palestinian incitement in kindergartens, schools, in the education system, on Palestinian television – indeed, there is no free press in the Palestinian Authority – perhaps the [terrorist from Otniel] and the terrorist from Tekoa were impressed by the Swedish foreign minister`s comments and then carried out their despicable acts.”

MK Nurit Koren (Likud) called Wallstrom`s remark ”outrageous”, ”bizarre”, ”insolent” and ”detached from reality.” She said the statement ”followed all the reports that come from social networks, in which half-truths are filmed and show the terrorists being shot after they attacked children, women and infants.”

MK Ayman Odeh (Joint List) said, ”This damned occupation is corrupting all of Israeli society.”
