The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoEP) and the Lod municipality will continue an investigation today, after a scare in Lod. A joint team from Israel’s National Fire & Rescue Authority, the Ministries of Environmental Protection (MoEP) and Health, Israel Police, and the Municipality of Lod arrived at a residential building last night, Feb. 3, 2016, after receiving a report that a toxic herbicide had spilled in one of the apartments. Firefighters washed and cleaned the area, and removed the hazardous material.

The hazardous material was Polaris 40, an herbicide used in agricultural fields. Although the material was cleaned and removed, the MoEP and Health Ministry recommended evacuating the building, in case the herbicide was still present in the air.

The MoEP and Lod municipality are taking samples today, to check whether there is any remaining residue. The return of residents to their homes will be dependent on the findings.
