Researchers have submitted a report detailing results thus far of a 5-year epidemiological monitoring project in Haifa Bay. The Ministries of Environmental Protection (MoEP) and Health received the report on March 31, 2016. The ministries recently took over management and funding of the project.

The Epidemiological Monitoring Project is aimed at studying the links between air pollution and morbidity in the area. The MoEP and Ministry of Health, which have the authority to determine when and how to present study results, have decided that they will not publish the report until it is evaluated by a scientific committee. The committee is made up of representatives from both ministries, as well as senior researchers from academia and medical institutions.

The project, which began on March 24, 2015, is a joint venture between the MoEP, Health Ministry, the Haifa municipality, the Haifa Towns Association Environmental Unit, and industry representatives.
It’s being conducted by researchers from Haifa University, with the collaboration of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and the Universities of Ben-Gurion and Tel Aviv.
