Directors of visitor centers in the legislatures of the United States, the European Union, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Panama visited the Knesset on Wednesday. They are scheduled to meet over the coming days with senior officials in the Israeli parliament in order to create the infrastructure for establishing an international body of visitor centers of parliaments from around the world.
Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot briefed the guests on the Knesset`s initiative to establish the international body, as well as on the 25 educational programs that are run by the Knesset`s Visitor Center, including tours of the parliament building for different age groups, visits by MKs to schools, educational tours in the framework of the ”Green Knesset” project, and more.
Plot told the guests that some 160,000 people visit the parliament building each year in order to witness the Knesset`s work from up close and meet with Knesset Members. ”Officials from many parliaments around the world visit us in order to learn,” he said, while mentioning that Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, who is on an official visit to China, asked to pass on his personal greetings to the directors of visitors centers.
Knesset Visitors Center Director Liat Shimoni-Konitzky, who initiated the conference, said that by working together the visitors centers of parliaments worldwide can enrich and improve the experience of the visitors.
