Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife will tomorrow arrive in Israel on an official visit (see schedule below), at the head of an approximately 60 member delegation, at the invitation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will be accompanied by – inter alia – Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli Bin Masagos Mohamad.

This is the first ever visit to Israel by a Prime Minister of Singapore since Singapore was founded 51 years ago and since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1969.

Israel-Singapore relations have been characterized by a brave friendship that began during the tenure of Singapore’s founder, first prime minister and father of the current prime minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew. The two countries enjoy cooperation in a variety of fields. A bilateral cooperation agreement – on international aid, especially joint assistance to third countries – was signed today.
