MK Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud), chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, met with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov at the Knesset last week to discuss ways to strengthen the cooperation between Jerusalem and Baku, mainly in the economic field.
During the meeting, Azimov estimated that Iran has not given up its nuclear ambitions, but said Tehran has suspended some aspects of its nuclear program. The two agreed that the extensive cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan should be intensified through interparliamentary work and high-level meetings.
Azimov also lauded the activity of the Israel-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, which is headed by MK Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beitenu).
MK Hanegbi briefed Deputy FM Azimov on the recent developments in the Israeli political arena and asked about Azerbaijan`s geopolitical situation and its relations with its neighbors.
