Following the intervention of Health Minister. Yakov Litzman: a solution to the issue of funding a viral hepatitis drug for prisoners is likely.

Following the introduction of a novel drug for treating hepatitis C into the drug basket, the Israel Prison Service has had difficulty in finding funding for the expensive drug, with an estimated cost for treating all infected patients being millions of shekels per year. Following a special request by the Prison Chief Commissioner, Ofra Klinger, and Minister of Public Security, Gilad Arden, to the Minister of Health, Rabbi Yakov Litzman, the Minister called a special urgent meeting on the subject and instructed the responsible parties at the Ministry of Health to help the IPS purchase the drug at a significant discount, which will allow the IPS to provide the medical answer to inmates with viral hepatitis.
