MK Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) on Tuesday participated in a central debate at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which focused on promoting women in the armed forces and preventing gender-based violence and discrimination.
Lavie told the meeting that as part of the Knesset`s efforts to increase its parliamentary supervision over the army, a report is submitted once a year to one of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee`s subcommittees dealing with sexual harassment.
Moreover, she noted, 92% of the positions in the IDF are available to women. Lavie called this ”revolutionary advancement in the integration of women in combat forces and other units.”
