Carmel Terminal at Port of Haifa
An investigation has begun, after a mishap caused 5-10 cubic meters of transformer oil to spill in the Carmel Terminal in Haifa Bay on June 15th. The oil then flowed into the Mediterranean Sea through the drainage system. The Ministry of Environmental Protection’s Marine Environment Protection Division were on the scene of the spill almost immediately, though the Port of Haifa took responsibility for treating it and cleaning it up. This included containing it with booms and pumping it out of the water. Ministry inspectors are investigating the spill, including whether it was the result of negligence.
