Earlier this month, Israeli security forces arrested three members of a Hamas cell responsible for the murder of Rabbi Michael “Miki” Mark. Last night, Mouhammad Jabra Fakia, the terrorist who shot Rabbi Mark, was killed in a joint operation of the IDF (Zahal), ISA, and Israel Police.

Security forces surrounded Fakia’s hideout in the village of Surif, north of Hebron. Israeli security forces called on the operative to surrender, and he responded by opening fire and hurling explosives. Forces responded according to procedure and returned fire. Fakia was killed in the exchange.

“The message is clear,” says Col. Roman Gofman, the Etzion Brigade commander who oversaw the operation. “The IDF (Zahal) is locating and arresting all terrorists who carry out attacks in order to bring security to all of the citizens of the State of Israel.”

On July 1, 2016, the Hamas-affiliated terror cell opened fire on a car on Route 60, near Otniel. Rabbi Michael “Miki” Mark, 48, was killed in the attack, and his wife and two of his children were wounded. The family was driving home for the Sabbath. Rabbi Mark is survived by his wife and 10 children.

The attack took place in the last days of Ramadan, and immediately followed the murder of 13-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel in her bedroom. Rabbi Mark’s death is the most recent in the ongoing wave of terror. Since October 2015, 40 people have been killed in Palestinian terror attacks.
