On 20.7.2017, a rabid jackal was found in the Tel Dan reserve in the Upper Galilee, after he attacked a tourist (the tourist begun prevention treatment against rabies in the Petah Tikva Health Bureau).
The Ministry of Health requests that anyone who has been in contact or that the animals in his possession have come into contact with the infected animal or a wandering animal in the area of the incident, between 6.7.17 and 20.7.17 including, to address the Health Bureau in Zefat, 04-6994257, 6994218, or to the Health Bureau closest to his place of residence, in order to consider the need for preventive treatment for them as well. After work hours and during the weekend, go to the hospital emergency room.
The Ministry of Health wants to pass the information about the event to travelers and vacationers in the area and in the nearby localities.
Parents of children are asked to inquire with their children, whether they have been in contact with suspicious animals and to contact the Health Bureau urgently.
Pet owners are requested to contact their Municipality veterinarian to verify their immunization status.
The Ministry of Health reminds once again of someone who has been bitten or scratched by an animal, should immediately rinse the area with running water and soap, disinfect with disinfectants and go to the Health Bureau to see if there is a need for preventive treatment against rabies.
