The Department of Enforcement and Supervision of the Ministry of Health continues to act against the installation of automatic vending machines for the sale of cigarettes

On 01/01/2014, came into force a clause of the Restriction of Advertising and Marketing of Tobacco Products Act of 1983. Clause (7b) states that "a person shall not place a machine for the sale of tobacco products".

This section was legislated in order to protect public health, including reducing the availability of tobacco products to the public in general and to minors in particular, and to reduce the advertising of tobacco products resulting from the very existence of the machine.

This law constitutes an additional step in the restrictions on the sale of cigarettes and continues the efforts of the Ministry of Health in this subject.

The Division of Enforcement and Supervision has accumulated a "basket of ways of action", firmly enforce the reduction and eradication of the ‎phenomenon, focusing the issue and initiating enforcement activities in cooperation with other ‎enforcement agencies (local authorities and police) to remove the automatic machines for the ‎sale of tobacco products. To this day, many reports have been received from the public ‎regarding the location of the machines and dozens of machines have been removed.‎

As can be seen in the attached pictures, due to proactive inquiries by the Enforcement and Supervision Division, many local authorities have exercised their authority, enforced and removed the machines in coordination with us.

On 16/07/2017, a repeated inspection was carried out by the staff of the Enforcement and Supervision Division at the "Netzah Restaurant", which is under the supervision of the Elyachin Local Council. It was found that the machine has not yet been removed, despite a warning letter sent to the business owner demanding the removal of the machine, and our telephone call to the head of the local municipality, Eliachin, to remove the machine according to the provisions of the law.
Therefore, the department staff filed a complaint at the Hadera station against those responsible for placing the machine.

8000 Israelis die every year from smoking.

If you encounter such a machine, please report it to the Ministry of Health, and we will act to remove it.
