Pollution on Herzliya Beaches After Sewage Malfunction

Following the damage to a central sewage line near the Ayalon Freeway in the Galil-Yam area, and the flow of sewage into the sea, several Herzliya beaches were closed for bathing. On Sunday, July 2nd, the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s  Marine Environment Protection Division instructed the Herzliya Corporation and the Herzliya Municipality to block and pump the sewage as needed following the malfunction, provided that it does not reach the sea. Despite the measures taken by the Corporation and the municipality, some 2,500 cubic meters of sewage did reach the handicapped-accessible beach in Herzliya. The circumstances surrounding the malfunction are being examined. If deemed necessary, measures will be taken against those involved.
